Protect Sri Lanka Asylum-Seekers Deadline: ASAP
On
June 28, a boat traveling from India carrying 153 Sri Lankan
asylum-seekers contacted journalists in Australia to say they were
nearing a remote Australian territory. The boat was intercepted by the
Australian navy and the Australian government has admitted that they are
detaining the 153 people at sea. The
asylum-seekers are believed to include mostly Tamils, who are at risk
of torture upon return to Sri Lanka because of suspected links to the
opposition Tamil Tigers.
