Peace River Valley, Canada: Indigenous people struggling to save their ancestral lands - #W4R2016

Amnesty International
More than 100 years ago, Helen Knott’s great-great grandfather signed an agreement with the Canadian government that was meant to protect his people’s way of life. That promise is being broken. The government has given the go-ahead for the Site C dam, a huge hydro-electric project in the Peace River Valley, British Columbia. If built, it will drown over 80km of land, sweeping away Indigenous hunting, fishing and burial grounds.
