Bu Dongwei was assigned 30-month
'Re-education through Labour' sentence in connection with his activities
as a member of the Falun Gong spiritual movement, which is banned in
China.
He was released on 18 July, approximately four months before the end of his term of re-education through labour. Bu Dongwei believes international attention including Amnesty International's campaign protected him during his ordeal, and would like to thank all Amnesty International activists who took action on his behalf and to protect human rights in China.
