Amnesty Midwestern Regional Conference - Oct 7-9, 2016

Amnesty International USA
 Johnny Gonzales
Senior Director of Events, Membership Mobilization

We are only one month away! Register today for the opportunity to engage with fellow activists from throughout the Midwest as you learn how you can take action on pressing human rights issues in your region and around the world. This conference will also give you access to a nationwide network of like-minded advocates, as well as educational resources designed to enable real change.

Did you know? Detroit is a city defined by immense pride, diversity, and culture. With the 1974 election of the city’s first black mayor, Coleman Young, Detroit embodied a new image: one of black empowerment and racial equality. Representative of the region’s activists’ emphasis on equal opportunity, the state of Michigan is home to the largest percentage of refugees. Today, AIUSA stands behind Midwestern activists as they stand up against prejudice and hate and fight to end gun violence.

This year’s program will focus on a variety of pressing issues:

  • How legislative advocacy at the local and national level can be used in the struggle against gun violence and the unlawful use of lethal force
  • Looking at the refugee crisis through the lens of our “America I Believe In” campaign
  • The experience of human rights defenders in the Flint water crisis
  • And much more!
