" Nasrin Sotoudeh, a leading Iranian human rights lawyer, winner of 2008 and 2012 United Nation and Sakharov Human Rights awards, has become the symbol of non-violent civil society movement in Iran. On October 15th of 2014, with the pressure from Ministry of Intelligence, Iranian Bar Association deprived her of practicing her profession for five years. Since October 18th of 2014, in protest to this unlawful action, she has staged a sit-in in front of the Iranian Bar Association and has vowed to continue this until “The right to freely work and practice one’s profession is recognized for people who think differently.” We the undersigned, in recognition of her demands as mandated by Articles 7, 17, 18, 19 and 23 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, to which the Islamic Republic of Iran is a signatory, do hereby declare and support her “Rights to Employment, Rights to dissent.”
