COLOMBIA: Defend Environmental Defenders - ONLINE ACTION
One of the most pressing priorities we all face is protecting the environment on which our human rights and shared future depends. Yet too many environment defenders must risk their lives to respond to this challenge.
In the South American country of Colombia, hardly a day goes by without news of yet another horrific assassination.
Defenders in Colombia have sent out an SOS to the world with the hashtag #NosEstánMatando - #TheyAreKillingUs. They urge us to raise our voices together to demand action to stop the violence so they can protect a healthy environment for all.
Please add your voice to support the courageous environment defenders under relentless attack in Colombia. They refuse to be silenced. We must not be silent either!
Sign our petition to tell Colombia we’re watching and demand guarantees of protection for earth defenders and their communities.

IRAN: Halt Imminent Execution - NEWS
Amnesty International, April 11 2021.
Amnesty International urges the head of Iran’ judiciary to immediately halt the planned execution of a man sentenced to death for the rape of a child. Yesterday, Iranian officials transferred Farhad Salehi Jabehdar, 30, to solitary confinement in the Central Prison of Karaj in Alborz province in preparation for his execution. His execution is scheduled to take place at dawn on 13 April.
The organization recalls that, in addition to the fact that the use of the death penalty for the crime of rape is prohibited under international law, the death penalty is the ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment and is never the answer.
The Iranian authorities have scheduled the execution of Farhad Salehi Jabehdar even though a request for a judicial review of his case is pending before the Supreme Court. The child’s parent has formally requested the authorities not to impose the death penalty on Farhad Salehi Jabehdar.

Amnesty International Report 2020/21 - State of the World’s Human Rights
In April 2021, Amnesty International issued its annual 2020/21 Report on the State of the World’s Human Rights, which documents the human rights situation in 149 countries in 2020, as well as providing global and regional analysis. It presents Amnesty International’s concerns and calls for action to governments and others. During 2020, the world was rocked by COVID-19. The pandemic and measures taken to tackle it impacted everyone, but also threw into stark relief, and sometimes aggravated, existing inequalities and patterns of abuse.
The full report is available in English at the following link: https://www.amnesty.org/en/documents/pol10/3202/2021/en/

IRAN: British-Iranian Citizen Held In Prison - ONLINE PETITION
Amnesty International, UK, 4-7-2021.
My name is Sherry Izadi and I am the wife of Anoosheh Ashoori, a British-Iranian citizen who was arbitrarily arrested and detained while visiting his mother in Iran in 2017.
My husband was subjected to torture and sleep deprivation and forced to sign “confessions”. He was denied the right to a lawyer and after a grossly unfair trial, he was given two prison sentences of ten years and two years.
Today is Anoosheh’s 67th birthday - it’s the fourth birthday he’s spending in prison and without his family. Getting him home urgently should be of the highest priority for the UK government. Please sign the petition to help get Anoosheh back home. We should not have to wait one more birthday, holiday or celebration to have him back.
