Morocco: Justice for Ali Aarrass, Tortured Victim Deadline: ASAP
In December 2012, Ali Aarrass, a Belgian-Moroccan coffee shop owner was extradited to Morocco on terrorism charges. Held for 12 days in a secret location, Ali suffered beatings to the soles of his feet, electric shocks to his testicles and burns from cigarettes at the hands of Moroccan intelligence. The UN’s expert on torture visited Ali in jail, along with an independent doctor. Both confirmed the gruesome signs of torture – yet Moroccan authorities have completely failed to investigate. Ali was convicted on no other evidence apart from a “ confession” extracted under torture. He is now serving a 12-year sentence in the the notorious SalĂ© II prison, where other inmates were shocked by the torture as well.
