Update on #FreeGhoncheh campaign
"Our lawyer became informed last week that the judge has issued the guilty verdict for Ghoncheh for “propaganda against the regime” and has sentenced her to one year of imprisonment. Yet the judge refused to officially hand in this verdict and continued leaving Ghoncheh in her 131 days long limbo of uncertainty in the temporary detention centre of Evin prison. We haven't seen or spoken to her for 10 days but we know she began a dry hunger strike last Saturday, protesting the mishandling of her case. That means no food or liquid, which can be detrimental"

Syria: Arrested at the border, whereabouts unknown - URGENT ACTION!
Syrian men Jadia Nofal and Omar al-Sha’ar were arrested by immigration
officials on the Syrian side of the Lebanese-Syrian border on 31 October. They
have not been heard of since their arrest and there are fears for their
well-being.

The
2014 Write for Rights (W4R) season is upon us. The W4R website is up
and running you can find more information and register your event at Write For Rights .
This year we have 10 cases that range from Women's Rights, Gun
Violence to Torture and we need your group's help in making this year a
true success.
We
need everyone to be engaged in this year's event. Think of ways to
partner with organizations that will see the benefit of joining Amnesty
in writing letters. Let's have a great Write for Rights 2014.

It was announced during the Regional Conference the 2015 Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held March 20 -22 in Brooklyn, New York.

- Calling on the Iranian authorities to quash the verdict against Ghoncheh Ghavami and to release her immediately and unconditionally, as she is a prisoner of conscience who has been held solely for her peaceful exercise of her rights to freedom of expression, association, and assembly;
- Urging them to allow her regular visits from her family and lawyer and ensure she receives any medical care she might need;
- Pending her release, urging them to transfer Ghoncheh Ghavami out of solitary confinement

Iran: Protection of Human Rights Must Go Beyond Fine Words
"Amnesty International welcomes the
resolve by UN Member States participating in the examination of Iran to not
allow themselves to be sidetracked by Iran’s rhetorical games, and to insist on
taking the Iranian authorities to task for their failure to implement their
human rights commitments. In stark contrast to the fiction presented by Iran,
the review session pointed to a dire state of human rights, with an ever
increasing number of executions, including juveniles put to death and public
executions; widespread torture and other cruel, inhumane and degrading treatments
or punishments committed with impunity; violations of international fair trial standards;
entrenched discrimination on the basis of gender, religious belief, ethnic
identity, sexual orientation and gender identity; and restrictions on freedoms
of expression, association and assembly."
