Today, Amnesty International has issued a new major report titled, “They violently raped me”: Sexual violence weaponized to crush Iran’s “Woman Life Freedom” uprising. The report documents in detail the harrowing ordeals of 45 survivors, including 26 men, 12 women and seven children, who were subjected to horrific acts of rape, gang rape and/or other forms of sexual violence by Iran’s intelligence and security forces following their arbitrary arrests during the “Woman Life Freedom” uprising between September and December 2022. The organization found that sexual violence was used with impunity as a weapon of torture to punish protesters.
