End physical harm of women in Iran due to their improper "hejab" - ONLINE PETITION

"For the last 35 years, women in Iran have been under severe oppression and abuse for the way they dress publicly. Recently, several women in Isfahan, Iran have been significantly disfigured by having acid thrown at their faces, for wearing improper Islamic garb or "hejab". This petition calls on Islamic Republic officials to end these acts of aggression against women, and the rhetoric which promotes such violence." Click here for ONLINE PETITION by Afshin Nariman.

     Nearly 30 years ago, on 3 December 1984, toxic gas leaked from the Union Carbide India Limited factory in Bhopal, India. As many as 10,000 people died in 3 days - 1000s more have died since. Union Carbide Corporation - majority owner of UCIL - has never appeared in Indian courts to answer charges, including "culpable homicide not amounting to murder". UCC's parent company Dow Chemical has done nothing to ensure UCC respects India's justice system. Click here to demand Dow comply with criminal court order on Bhopal tragedy.

WOMEN'S RIGHTS ACTIVIST DETAINED

Women’s rights activist Souad al-Shammari was detained on 28 October following her first interrogation session. Amnesty International believes she is a prisoner of conscience.

Souad al-Shammari, a prominent Saudi Arabian women’s rights activist, was detained on 28 October 2014 after a four-hour interrogation session at the Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution in Jeddah. At the end of the interrogation the General Prosecutor informed her that she would be detained for further questioning. She was transferred to the women’s section at the General Prison of Briman, in Jeddah, where she is currently held.
