Oman: Saeed Jaddad Sentenced - Amnesty International URGENT ACTION

Fourth Update for this Urgent Action:
On 8 March, a court of first instance in Muscat found Saeed Jaddad, a 48-year-old businessman, guilty of “undermining the prestige of the state”, “incitement to protest” and “using social media to disseminate information that infringed on the sanctity of public order”.
He was sentenced to three years in prison and a fine of 1,700 Omani riyal (US$4,415). Saeed Jaddad has appealed the sentence and paid a 2,000 Omani riyal (US$5,194) bail, but has not been released, apparently due to a second separate case against him. The first hearing in this separate court case is expected to begin on 17 March in Salalah, in the southern province of Dhofar, on charges relating to Oman’s Cyber Crimes Law.
