China's Government would like you to forget about my father. His name is Ilham Tohti. A few weeks ago, he won the prestigious 2016 Martin Ennals Award for human rights. Yet he has been cruelly punished by the Chinese Government solely for peacefully expressing his views as an academic and writer. Please help by urging the Chinese authorities to immediately and unconditionally release my father. The relentless efforts by Chinese authorities to silence my dad are part of widespread and violent repression of the Uighur minority in China. He has worked tirelessly to fight discrimination against Uighurs in his home region. He adamantly opposed violence. But Chinese authorities see even peaceful criticism as a threat.
