AI Madison Group #139 Weekly Update - October 14, 2016

Greetings Everyone!

Returning to the U.S. and watching the news, one might think that the only thing going on in the world is the Presidential Election. Not true! This week many celebrated the International Day of the Girl on October 11th. An important report from Human Rights Watch regarding drug use in the US was released. And, crazy as it sounds, Bob Dylan won the Nobel Prize for Literature. Amnesty International also launched this year's Write for Rights Campaign. We will hear much more about this in subsequent Weekly Updates and will highlight a case each week. Check out this week's case about Shawkan, a photojournalist.

We have some very important ONLINE PETITIONS and URGENT ACTIONS that need our attention. Please consider writing on behalf of these prisoners who need our voices. Don't forget our videos and many events. If you are in the San Bernardino area in CA, you will have an opportunity to hear one of our members, Dr. Farideh Kioumehr speak at the "Gaining Peace & Unity" event on October 22nd!
Also note that I'll be working on replacing the sidebar on our website that somehow magically disappeared. It contained valuable information such as quick links to our Urgent Actions, Online Petitions, Posts of the Week, Calendar of Events, and Videos. They should be up and running for next week's Weekly Update.
     Peace to All,
     -Debbie, Weekly Update Editor
