Japan: Anger and grief should not be used to justify the death penalty - ONLINE PETITION

Amnesty International Australia

Right now in Japan, 13 people could be executed at any moment. Executions are often carried out in secret with little notice to the prisoners or their families.

The death penalty is an irrevocable, cruel and inhumane punishment. It doesn’t reduce crime rates, nor does it make our communities any safer.

The 13 men were sentenced to death for their involvement in the 1995 sarin gas attack in Tokyo which claimed 13 lives and injured more than 6000 people. The crimes they were convicted of were horrific, and caused a great deal of grief and anger. But more killing, and more violence is not the answer.

Sign this petition and show the Japanese authorities that we say NO to the death penalty in all circumstances.
