Our latest investigation exposes an elaborate fortress of secrecy, designed by the Australian Government to deliberately and systematically abuse more than 1,200 men, women and children on Nauru. This cruel system amounts to torture, and its sole purpose is to deter people from arriving by sea to seek safety in Australia. I’m one of the few people that have accessed Nauru, and I witnessed first-hand the full scale of suffering that the Australian Government intentionally inflicts on some of the world’s most vulnerable people. I spoke with children as young as six; to mothers, fathers and grandparents driven to absolute despair. It was so heartbreaking to hear about their deteriorating mental health, the violent attacks, the sexual abuse and inadequate medical care. These people have suffered tremendously, and cannot withstand it a moment longer.
