"WINNIPEG — More than a decade in the making, the Canadian Museum For
Human Rights holds its opening ceremonies Friday morning, following a
Thursday evening gala for donors who added to the federal government’s
support. It is the first national museum outside Ottawa, and the only one in the world dedicated solely to human rights.
Exhibits begin with descriptions of the earliest efforts to articulate the dignities of humankind, from the ancient works of Zoroaster, Constantine and Cyrus the Great of Persia, through the Hindu virtue of causing no injury, or Ahimsa, up through the Magna Carta and the writings of Marx and Rousseau. Most exhibits, however, are contemporary."
