 "Seven years ago today, the United Nations passed the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. It is something that deserves recognition and celebration, but it is also a reminder that so much more work needs to be done."
Issues facing the First Nations (in Canada)
 
• One in four children in First Nations communities live in poverty, which is close to double the national average.
• Suicide rates among First Nation routes are alarmingly high among First Nation youth.
• Life expectancy of First Nations people is five to seven years less than other Canadians.
• First Nation children receive, on average 22 per cent less funding for child welfare services than other Canadian children.
