"Pro­fes­sor Ash­more will out­line the his­tor­i­cal devel­op­ment of what has become the uni­ver­sal moral stan­dard of human rights and dis­cuss the gap between rhetoric and prac­tice in vio­la­tion of those stan­dards by the world’s dom­i­nant states.

Robert Ash­more is a Pro­fes­sor Emer­i­tus of Phi­los­o­phy at Mar­quette Uni­ver­sity where he received the Hegarty Fac­ulty Award for Teach­ing Excel­lence and was Direc­tor of the Cen­ter for Ethics Stud­ies. He has taught and pub­lished in the areas of eth­i­cal the­ory, phi­los­o­phy of law, human rights, and busi­ness ethics. He served on the Mequon’s Com­mon Coun­cil for six years and is cur­rently serv­ing on its Board of Appeals. He has trav­eled many times to the Mid­dle East and is espe­cially con­cerned with the search for a just peace in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict."
