The Human Rights Tulip is awarded once a year by The Netherlands’s Minister of Foreign Affairs for human rights defenders who promote and support human rights in innovative ways. The award comes with €100,000 in prize money, which the winner can use
to further develop or expand the scale of their work for human rights.
In this way the prize benefits people in as many places as possible. The
Ministry of Foreign Affairs has chosen the organisation Hivos to
support the winner in this work.
