Hi Everyone,
Today is a
very special day. Today is the "World Day Against Death Penalty." We
have provided several links to Amnesty International reports and a video on our
website. We invite you to (1) find out if your state has the death penalty, (2)
find a list of upcoming executions, and (3) join a worldwide book club. Have
you read any of the following: "Witness Bahrain," "The Hour of
Sunlight," "One Family in Gaza," "There is a Field,"
"Inside the Culture of Resistance," "Rebuilding Hope,"
"Darfur Diaries," or "I am Troy Davis?" Click on this link for this
information and more.
"The
death penalty is the ultimate denial of human rights. It is the premeditated
and cold-blooded killing of a human being by the state. This cruel, inhuman and
degrading punishment is done in the name of justice. It violates the right to
life as proclaimed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Amnesty
International opposes the death penalty in all cases without exception
regardless of the nature of the crime, the characteristics of the offender, or
the method used by the state to kill the prisoner." -Amnesty International
