Migrants deserve respect, safety and dignity - International Migrants' Day - December 18, 2014

From United Nations Human Rights Facebook Post
"All migrants – regular or irregular – have an inalienable claim to dignity, to justice, to freedom and to all other human rights,” says UN Human Rights Chief Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein on the International Migrants’ Day: http://sm.ohchr.org/1wPBxNQ

There are more international migrants today than at any other time in human history, with an estimated more 232 million people living and working outside their own countries. But many migrants face exploitation, discrimination and violence as they move, as well as in countries of destination where they live and work."

" On International Migrants Day, a group of international experts call for open, safe and regular migration channels for the more than 232 million migrants throughout the world, 20 percent of whom are estimated to be in an irregular situation: http://sm.ohchr.org/1wP6Jgj

“This year has seen an unprecedented number of migrants fleeing violence and conflict and risking dangerous sea crossings in search of a better life for themselves and their families,” Ms. Maya Sahli Fadel says. “Repressive policies fail to deter irregular migration because people’s need to survive is always stronger,” UN Special Rapporteur François Crépeau adds."
