Greetings Everyone!
So, what is Amnesty International? It is "a global movement of over 7
million people committed to defending those who are denied justice or
freedom." And, YOU, are one of those 7 million. Together, we write
letters, sign petitions, and spread information. Together, we attend
rallies, wear our t-shirts, and lobby for change. Together, we give hope
to a son or daughter, to a family, to a community, to a nation, and to a
world that human rights can be a reality. During our Write for Rights
campaign in December, a young man came up to me with the biggest smile
and was bubbling with enthusiasm. He asked if this is the same Amnesty
International that worked so hard in his country (Iraq). He was so
grateful for our work. Yes, it is! Yes, IT is! YES IT IS!
The fast-breaking Charlie Hebdo
story out of France is another example of how Amnesty International and
thousands of others ban together in solidarity. Amnesty International
groups around the world (along with thousands of
others) are posting on social media "JE SUIS CHARLIE" or "SOLIDARITÉ"
signs. Some of these AI groups
include: AI-UK, AI-Toulouse, AI-Europe, AI-Israel, AI-Hamburg,
AI-Northern
Ireland, AI-Toronto, AI-Olympia Washington, and AI Madison Group #139.
The third photo is of the AI-UK office during a moment of silent
yesterday. (See our post here.)
In solidarity,
