Amnesty International USA
AI-USA News: Departure of Steve Hawkins, Executive Director

We would like to inform our Amnesty International Madison Group #139 members that Steve Hawkins, JD, Executive Director of AIUSA, has left the organization. The reason for his parting has not been released due to confidentiality of the issues that led to his departure. We are proud of the steady progress that has been achieved under Steve’s leadership during his tenure at AI-USA for nearly two and half years. We wish him success for his next human rights endeavors in upholding human rights justice.
FYI, Ms. Margaret Huang, the AI-USA Chief of Staff, is stepping into the role of Interim Executive Director. Last night (Dec. 8, 2015) several members of our AI-139 Group participated in a conference call with Ms. Ann Burroughs, Chair of AIUSA Board of Directors. Ms. Margaret Huang, was introduced as the new Interim Executive Director and she responded to several questions/concerns raised by the members. Mr. Aniket Shah, AIUSA Treasurer and Chair of Finance Committee gave a brief report. The financial picture for AIUSA is sound and membership continues to grow slowly. We will continue to send you updates regarding the transition of leadership at AIUSA as we receive them.
