"We learned this week that Atena Farghadani, a young artist, has been sentenced to an astonishing 12 years and 9 months in prison for her political cartoon, depicting members of Iran's Majles (parliament) with animal heads, in protest of bills working their way through the process that aim to promote child-bearing, by among other things, restricting women's access to contraception and establishing hiring preferences for married over single women. At the same time, human rights defender Narges Mohammadi is in detention and on trial on numerous spurious charges related to her vocal opposition to the death penalty and her association with the Center for Human Rights Defenders. Please take action using the urgent action on Ms Farghadani"
