Mustafa al-Hawsawi has languished in Guantánamo since 2006, where he is facing charges before the unfair military commissions system. Before that, he was in the custody of the CIA from 2003 to 2006, where he was subjected to torture and other cruel treatment.
He is now reported to be suffering chronic extreme pain, and potentially life-threatening illness that may well be a result of his torture. A failure of the military authorities responsible for his treatment in Guantánamo to provide him the appropriate care is a violation of international legal obligations.
Act now to tell the Department of Defense to immediately provide Mr. al-Hawsawi adequate medical assessment and care.
