I don’t know if you’ve been following the Kiwisaver saga recently but things have been heating up. Six out of the nine Kiwisaver providers have announced that they will stop direct and indirect investments in the production of cluster bombs, landmines and nuclear weapons.

Following the investigation by Radio NZ and the NZ Herald, Amnesty International filed a Police complaint calling for an investigation, since it looked like these Kiwisaver holdings were illegal under New Zealand law. Yesterday, we found out the Police won’t be taking any legal action, which certainly doesn’t stop the remaining three default Kiwisaver providers from cutting all investments in these nasty weapons anyway. But they won’t do it without more pressure.
