Greetings Everyone!
“I am happy to finally be free after more than 17 months of imprisonment,” said Fred. “I thank Amnesty International and all those who fought in one way or another for my release. I look forward to seeing my family and friends to continue the fight for democracy and freedom in my country.”
“Knowing that there are people and entities such as Amnesty International that advocate and fight for equal justice, respect for human rights, gave us courage,” said Yves. “Every letter, every visit, every word has strengthened us and reinforced our determination in this long but just struggle for freedom and democracy. Thank you again.”
This week, Leonard Peltier's daughter wrote an article for TIME magazine imploring President Obama to grant her father clemency. Click here to read our post which contains more information and here for Amnesty International USA's ONLINE PETITION. Consider signing today!
I can't believe he is released. Such GOOD NEWS! Amnesty International
is still awaiting confirmation of Omid's release but other sources
including Nature
report that the physics PhD student has been granted parole and will be
able to leave Iran. Thank you to our many members who have written on
his behalf. We hope to have more updates about his well-being in the
future.
And... MORE GOOD NEWS! Congolese activists Fred Bauma and Yves Makwambala walked free last week! Their case was part of our 2015 Write for Rights Campaign.
