Forget it. It’s too tough. It’s been this way since 1987, nothing is going to change. It’s too technical. It’s too big an ask. People don’t care about those seeking refuge from war and persecution.
In June last year double the quota was just a distant dream of a few keen people. A few people that didn’t want to accept we’d do nothing during the worst refugee crisis since the second world war.
And that few people grew…
From standing in solidarity around the country in the wake of little Aylan Kurdi's death, sending a personal message to Minister Woodhouse, sharing your voice in Parliament through Our Voices or signing a petition to John Key, we have grown from a simple idea to a resounding voice that refuses to be silenced. And yesterday, it became clear that the Prime Minister and Cabinet are hearing us loud and clear. It seems however the Prime Minister is still grappling with one crucial question. What should the quota be raised to? We’ve got to keep the pressure on and make it clear to John where the Quota needs to go.
