Greetings Everyone,
Click here for links to this week's Amnesty International and Human Rights Information and Actions
We have
many interesting posts this week. Besides our many online petitions,
Urgent Actions, and Human Rights News, check out this post
from Sri Lanka. The poetry will certainly move you. We also have a
video from the United Nations OCHA about "impossible choices." Amnesty
has a new phone app that will allow you to help others when you silence
your phone. Interesting! Check it out here.
Our Calendar of Events has some very exciting local events and some
wonderful Amnesty International leadership training opportunities. So
many opportunities for us to make a difference!
Also, I just wanted to let everyone know that I might be late with the next couple of Weekly Updates but will try to keep the website, Facebook, and Twitter updated. I will be out of the country on business. I have been able to keep up with posts when traveling to Brazil and South Korea and many countries in between but this time with a 13 hour time difference and spotty internet service, posts may be delayed.

From our Group Leader:
"Last night I listened to the AI-USA campaign for abolishing Death
Penalty in US. I learned that only 18 States have abolished death
penalty with NE being questionable due to its present
republican governor who wants to change it. Of note is that
none of the so-called liberal western states (CA, OR, WA) have abolished
capital punishment. The AI-USA campaign is to help abolish death
penalty state-by-state and eventually pursue Supreme Court to outlaw it
altogether. Wisconsin was the FIRST State to abolish death penalty in 1853. Click here for this interesting story."
