Maldives: First execution in 60 years now imminent - ONLINE PETITION

Amnesty International Australia
The Maldives are preparing to resume executions after more than 60 years... Hussain Humaam Ahmed will be the first death row inmate to face the gallows in over 60 years, but he won’t be the last, unless you take action. The 23-year-old was sentenced to death after being found guilty of murdering an MP when he was just 19. There are serious concerns about the fairness of his trial, including a ‘confession’ that was extracted by authorities after they allegedly threatened to harm his family. The President has pledged to hang death row prisoners within 30 days of the Supreme Court upholding a guilty verdict, which puts Humaam’s life in imminent danger. Act now to help stop the Maldives from making a terrible mistake. Join our call on the authorities in the Maldives urging them to halt all plans to resume executions before it’s too late.
