"The
past few weeks have been difficult for our community and nation at
large. Across the country, people are stepping up, facing the injustice
wrought by their local police forces, and confronting the violence that
took the lives of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge and Philando Castile in
the Twin Cities.
In Madison, there have been responses to these national issues as well
as confrontations to our own Madison Police Department. On Sunday, two
hundred people walked through Art Fair on the Square chanting "Black
Lives Matter!"; the next day, one hundred people occupied the MPD
building, blocking the doors and making demands."
