Amnesty International
Last year, Amnesty supporters like you helped free human rights defenders unjustly imprisoned in China, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Russia and other countries.
On Thanksgiving Day last year, Ablikim Abdiriyim, the son of noted human rights activist Rebiya Kadeer was in jail. Like his mother, he had been peacefully championing the rights of Uighurs, an ethnic minority group that has been persecuted by the Chinese government for decades.
He was thrown in jail, beaten and tortured. We feared for his life.
But despite the odds, Amnesty supporters rallied. We wrote letters. We called Chinese authorities in embassies around the world. We profiled Ablikim’s case in the media. We got the attention of leaders in the U.S. government.
And now, he has been released.
Ablikim - and his mother - are living proof that Amnesty's unique approach saves lives.
