Nearly 90 Americans are killed by a gun everyday. Congress has banned the CDC from conducting gun violence research for nearly 20 years, and that has to stop. Tell Congress to lift the ban and fund research.
In 1996, under pressure from the gun lobby, Congress defunded critical research by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) that would have helped us better understand how to prevent gun violence. Earlier this year, the U.S. House Appropriations Committee voted to maintain this funding ban.
With nearly 90 Americans dying every day from gun violence, we need more solutions not more barriers. It’s time to end this ban and give us the research and tools we need to take commonsense steps to save lives.
