Amnesty International USA: Monthly Action Guide - April/May 2016

Amnesty International USA

Every month, Amnesty International members gather in coffee shops, community centers, classrooms, and living rooms to take action for a world where human rights are enjoyed by all. We take injustice personally, and when we take action collectively, we have the power to change lives, and to change our world. Your actions make a difference. Just weeks ago, Phyoe Phyoe Aung, a youth leader who had been imprisoned in Myanmar for her activism, was released due in part to the enormous global pressure of Amnesty activists! Of course, there’s much more work to do. For April and May, we’re looking for a groundswell of action around AIUSA priority campaigns and programs:

Priority Campaigns:

  • Global Refugee Crisis: Letters to the Editor to spark conversation in your community
  •  Deadly Force: Sign the online petition to demand justice for Natasha McKenna
  •  Individuals at Risk: Call for clemency for Leonard Peltier

AIUSA Programs:

  • Women’s Rights: Call on the Tunisian government to reform laws that punish survivors of sexual and gender-based violence
  •  Security With Human Rights: Ask Senators and Representatives to support the GPS Act
  •  Member Advocacy: demand truth and justice for the Trinco 5
