Last month we launched our #BreakTheChains campaign asking YOU to call on the government of Indonesia to make mental health medication more available. Human Rights Watch's reporting exposed the shackling of 18,000 people
with psychosocial disabilities (mental health conditions) in Indonesia.
Many are locked up in chains or animal pens, sometimes for decades, in part because the government has refused to supply adequate mental health medication and services.
Thousands of you showed your support by emailing and tweeting Indonesia’s health minister with our call to make mental health medication readily available.
We just met with Indonesia's Minister of Health, Nila Moeloek, and she promised that the government will provide mental health medication in ALL 9,500 community health centers across the country. This important outcome could turn the tide against shackling.
Human Rights Watch will not rest until this promise is fulfilled. Without your support we could never have achieved this.
