"Amnesty International welcomes the holding of the VII Summit of the Americas as a regional forum to promote dialogue between the governments of the American continent. The organization believes that prioritizing the protection and promotion of human rights of all people without discrimination is crucial to the Summit’s main theme: “Prosperity with Equity”. The region still suffers from profound social and economic inequalities, a situation which has a profound impact on the human rights of individuals across the region. Despite the progress made in recent years, such inequality undoubtedly remains one of the main causes of the suffering, atrocities and abuses faced by millions of America’s people."
